Next go-round for AOU/ABA updates, there will be a few new birds on the Louisiana state list (Gray Flycatcher, Smooth-billed Ani, and Greater Flamingo among others) but I noticed one that I think needs removing.

Black Francolin was once considered a successfully introduced exotic in Louisiana, before the establishment of formal criteria and a committee process for evaluating these things. However, the Louisiana Bird Records Committee decided some years back that the species did not meet the criteria established later, and removed it from the official state list.

I only stumbled onto it because I'm helping set up a new BD install for someone whose list dates back to when the bird was countable. She had the sighting in her manual list but had updated it as "non-countable", but BD apparently has it on the list and resurrected the sighting.

I'm not sure how y'all handle deletions but insofar as I can tell, that's the only thing that needs removal. If you want I can get details of the removal (date, etc.) from the committee secretary.

Hi Kevin,

The Black Francolin is not associated with Lousiana in any Diary checklist files.

If you imported the ABA with Overwrite Locations it should have taken care of any stale data left over from previous versions. That is the only thing I can think of to explain why it may be associated in your database.

Or, if you did a sightings report for all things in LA, it would have showed up - not because it is associated with LA but because it was sighted there.

Let me know,

Jeff

Doh!

Actually, it was a slightly more obscure goof. I'm accustomed to running reports in their default order (taxonomic sequence for checklists, date order for lifelists). However, the paper-copy lifelist I was checking against was in taxonomic order, so I'd printed a lifelist in tax order to compare. Birds not associated with a checklist but for which there are sightings anyway show up on lifelists for that location (like on sightings reports), and because it was in checklist-order style, I forgot it wasn't an actual checklist.

That brings up a suggestion (which I'll post in the wishlist forum for follow-up) that perhaps one option to add down the road might be "Apply checklist constraints" for reports like Lifelists. I'll explain more what I'm thinking there.
