When I try to add a specific new species to a checklist in “Add” mode, I get the error dialog shown (hopefully) below. When I press OK, the app terminates.
I’ve only been using the app for one day (using the evaluation licence), so apologies if this problem has already been reported/resolved, or I’m just making a dumb user error. I’ll try to summarise the steps that get me to this problem (which seems reproducible); again apologies if I get the terminology wrong.
- I’ve created a new location “Tenerife” with parent “CANARY ISLANDS”.
- I’ve created a new trip “Tenerife 1991”. Both the trip and location seem to have been created OK, and I successfully created another location and trip yesterday. (I also added a full set of sightings for that previous trip with no problems.)
- I’ve entered “Add” mode, with the settings below, and have successfully entered a few days’ sightings for my “Tenerife 1991” trip.
- The CANARY ISLANDS checklist seems to be missing some species that we saw, so I’ve successfully added a few. I did this by clicking the “Add Name” button in the Add window. An example of a (sub-)species that I successfully added is “Common Ringed Plover hiaticula”, which I added by typing “Ringed Plover h” into the “Add Name to Checklist” dialog, then clicking Add.
- The problem comes if I type “greenshank n” into the “Add Name to Checklist” dialog. The dialog suggests the name “Common Greenshank nebularia”, which is what I want, but when I click “Add” I get the error dialog and the app terminates.
I just repeated the whole sequence in order to write this summary, and the same thing happened again. (That’s three times in total so far.)
I’m running Windows Vista Ultimate on a good spec Dell laptop with 2Gb of RAM and plenty of free disk space.
For now I have worked around the problem by changing the Location Filter in the Sightings Entry Setup to be “WESTERN PALEARCTIC”. This lets me enter Common Greenshank (Tringa nebularia), though there don’t seem to be any subspecies listed.
Hope that’s all clear. Any help would be much appreciated. |
