05/23/2009 6:52 PM Alert

Jeff, anyone else,

I just installed Windows 7 and reinstalled BD3.6.  Now I continually get cannot execute machnm1.exe errors when I run BD.  I have copied over machnm1.exe and machnm32.sys from my old windows/system32 directory to try to rectify the problem but that doesn't seem to work.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Another user had tested BD on Windows 7 RC release candidate. It worked there, but failed on beta versions. Which version are you running?

Can you please post a screen shot of the errors that you get.

Are you on a 64-bit machine? If so, I suspect, after some research, that you might need machnm64.sys - and to place it in c:\windows\sysWOW64\. This file would come from the 3rd party licensing software I use - so I will need to get a copy from them if you are on 64-bit. Let me know please. I will inquire to them in the meantime.

Jeff

Jeff,

I am on 64 bit Win 7 RC Build 7100.  So yes I guess I would suspect the same, that I need the 64 bit file perhaps...

What happens is a window pops up that says "Fatal Error" in the title bar, and the text of the message box just says "Unable to execute machnm1.exe" with an OK button.  That's it.  The error comes up repeatedly...like 3 or 4 times when I start up, and if i Leave BD up and running, it keeps periodically showing up.

Jeff,

Any luck on getting the machnm64.sys file? It is awfully hard to use BD for any extended period of time having to repeatedly close that error window.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I totally forgot about updating this one. The solution is complicated and not just a simple matter of a new EXE. I am working on building the proper solution for 64-bit machines into v3.7. But, unfortunately, I don't see a fix for you before then.

I apologize for this inconvenience. And as my way of helping you to live with this for a bit longer, I have added $50 credit to your Online Store account to be used anytime before 12/31/2009. It will be automatically applied to any purchase. So please help yourself to a new tax list with this.

fyi

Jeff

Thanks Jeff.  I just have to enter my sightings and leave the program for now.  I really appreciate the credit.  That was very cool of you.
