Subject: Error download/run 3.6.20

      I am trying to upgrade on my new computer first from 3 to 3.0.2 then to 3.5 and then to 3.6.20.

Although I just downloading 3.6.20 by clicking on Network Installation it starts the process but then says "a newer version of this installation is on the server. Please redownload the installation.

I logged off and repeated with the same result.


Also in the directions it says to upgrade from 3.5.x advanced. I am not sure that that is the version of 3.5 I just installed. Is that important.

when do I purchase the licenses that I need?

I brought data from my old computer over to this one. It is in

c:\programfiles\birder'sdiary\data\database.mdb. Is this correct? Will the 3.6.20 program just find it or do I have to do something?

On third try it worked.

Exactly what licence do i need. I don't need anyting too fancy but I am anxious to get Clements world list. How will my list get converted to from Wells. I have 3,ooo + birds from around the world.

Please give details on what I purchase and how i install.

I  am a long time user of Birder's Diary but the last I used was 3.0.2

Hi Jeanne,

You have posted this twice. Perhaps by mistake. I answered your intial post in the other thread.

Did you read the instructions on this site (on the page Product Info >> Upgrading from v2.x or v3.0)?

You must purchase the licenses as specified on that page under the section titled "Upgrading from V3.0.x". That is the only option.

Also, be sure to read the referenced section on post installation instructions further down the page.

Your sightings will automatically register in Clements. Nothing for you to do there.

Do NOT install v3.5. That is not part of the instructions. Go straight to installing v3.6 as per the instructions on that page.

Let me know if I can assist with any of this.

It was a mistake to enter twice-I hit the submit button twice.

I did install 3.0.2 and 3.5.56 before I installed 3.6. Is there a way to uninstall?

The message about not having the latest version came when I was trying to install 3.6 when just a few files had been downloaded. We clicked on the words Network Installation. It worked correctly when I clicked on download. All is OK now. I see that 3.6 is running and my data is recognized.

When i registered for 3.5 it said there were upgrades for several lists including ABA, Clements,AOU. it said they were loaded into the data directory and ready for importing. Where are the directions for that?

I sent an email to your sales office. I didn't get discount GET36NOW. Also other questions about price and what I ordered.

No need. Just proceed to the 3.6 installation. It will install over top of v3.5. The v3.5 installation automatically made a copy of your 3.0 database - so you can skip the "copy your database" step in the instructions.

Really?  Ok. So when BD comes up, it says v3.6.20 - and you see all your data? That is good.

The directions for that are at the bottom of the Upgrading from 2.x or 3.0 page. Directions for downloading and importing tax lists is on the Downloads >> Tax List Instructions page.

I answered that email, but please continue the dialog here.

You did not purchase the correct license per the instructions and therefore, the GET36NOW discount did not apply. I will gladly refund that "3.6 Basic" license purchase so you can purchase the correct license. Let me know that this is your intention before I do that.

Yes, please refund the 3.6 basic that I bought and charge me for the correct license. Also give me the discount, Get36now.

Your offer of doing the updates for me for $49 would have been tempting before I spent 2 nights on this. Now I think I am almost where I want to be. I don't see where you advertise your service offer. I have a thick stack fo papers from the product info and download pages. It may all be correct but it is confusing.

Hi Jeanne,

I refunded your "3.6 Basic" license.

However, I do not have the ability to enter purchases for customers. You will have to go back to the Online Store and get the proper license. Please refer to the Upgrading from v2.x or v3.0 page for that info as well as how to properly enter your priority discount code.

I agree Jeanne. It sounds like you are almost there.

The upgrade service is new and I am just about to put it on the web site.

If you have specific feedback/comments on the instructions I would love to hear them. There is always room for improvement there and I am constantly amending them based on user-feedback. Please tell me where it got confusing and how a specific instruction might be better worded. Please be as specific as possible. Point out specific steps that need explaining or correcting.
