I have tried to export a list of African birds and get 0 exported. However, when I check the "include contained locations" box I get 126168 records exported, which is a detailed list of each African country. I suppose I could do a sort and edit in excel, but I am lazy. Maybe Jeff could put this in a future version?

Hi John,
This is working as expected.
How are you requesting that it work differently? I can guess that perhaps you feel that if you specify a location that all sublocations with data be exported with that specified location. My thoughts on this are that checklist/location data needs to be entered at the lowest level possible. It trickles up. This gives the finest granularity possible for checklist data. If we export with all data specifying Africa, then you will get duplicate data and lose granularity. If this is your request, give me an example how you would use the data this way where you cannot use it currently.
Thanks Jeff |

I would just like to be able to export a list of all birds found in Africa. I have no USE for it but it would be good to look at & play with!
Currently, if I export a checklist of United Kingdom with no sublocation data I get a complete listing including subspecies that are not found here. If I specify "include contained locations" I get a complete listing for England (inc. subspecies) repeated for U.K. - duplicate data + (image below)
It just don't seem right!

Hi John,
That is right for Checklist export/import functionality and what it is supposed to do.
If you want a list of Species to play with for UK, here is what I would do.
1) Checklist report 2) England location 3) propert tax list 4) only output column is Common Name 5) Print to Text File
Now you can import that file into Excel etc.
Import/export was written to support checklist data. And it is most valuable as it works now for that functionality.
Make sense? If you come up with another way to get a list of species for a location (other than checklist) to play with in Excel - let me know.

Of course Jeff, should have thought of it myself! Time wasting again!
