I am trying to build a Trees Taxonomy matching Sibley's Guide to Trees since it is significantly different than the present Trees of NA taxonomy. And I hope to make the taxonomy and checklist (North America) available to Birder's Diary.
I wanted to add "generic" names for Sibley's groupings of trees (such as White Pine Group and Yellow Pine Group under the Pine Family (Family Pinaceae, Genus Pinus).
I can add the first (White Pine) group (got the red box icon), but when I try to add the second (Yellow Pine) group, also under the Genus Pinus, I get the pop-up 'Duplicate Classification/Tax List!' error, and the message 'This Classification is already used by this Taxonomic List!" message. I tried to add the Yellow Pine Group again by using a slightly different Thing name, and got the same error.
The User Guide instructions on how to add a "generic" species do not appear to be current (e.g. the 'Wizard' did not come up) and I couldn't get the Video instructions to come up, so I am struggling a little. I am current on my BD software.
What I had hope to achieve is:
Genus Pinus
Generic (red icon) White Pine Group
(White pine species)
Generic (red con) Yellow Pine Group
(Yellow pine species)
Sibley groups many species and I think this feature would be very useful.
I have two screen shots which I could email you.
I just read the 'How To Forum' posting dated 12/8/08 by Jeff and will try what he is suggesting.
Basic question - can I have two different 'generics' under the same Genus?
Thanks,
