I have a Version 3.0 of birders diary and have started getting a Fatal Error when trying to access my program.  The full error reads:

Your software license could not be verified because of the following error:
An invalid Collection name was provided to GetLicenseInfo.
Please contact technical support.
Latest Error Properties: 0=

What do I need to do about getting into my program?
Thanks,
Pam

Hi Pam,

My suggestion would be to first save a copy of your database. By default it would be at c:\program files\Thayer Birding Software\data\database.mdb. Just move a copy of it to someplace else on your system for safety purposes.

Next, determine which version of 3.0.x you have; e.g. 3.0 or 3.0.1 or 3.0.2. You will need this information if you have to reinstall from your installation CDrom. Do you get to see the splash screen and version number before you get the error in BD? If so, record that info.

Depending on your version of Window OS, the Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs window will give you an option to Repair the BD installation. You will need to click on the Change button for BD in that window and you will see a repair option. Try this first and it will probably fix your problem.

If that doesn't work then, I would reinstall BD from your installation CDrom - right over top of the current installation; no need to deinstall first. If your CDrom only contains 3.0 then you can upgrade to the last release of 3.0 (v3.0.2) from the Product Info >> Upgrading from 2.5 or 3.0 page. At the very bottom of that page, you will see downloads for the 3.0.2 upgrade and another for licensing 3.0.x. Download 3.0.2 and install it and then download and run the Activate v3.0.x License program. This will license your product.

This should get you fixed. Please write back and let us know one way or the other.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff,

The repair does seem to have fixed the problem and is letting me in again.  And the data is still there, but it was nice knowing I had a good back up.
